I am have questions regarding two problems with KIDS.

1. My version of Kernel is circa 1999. Do I have to upgrade - "patch" it to
current level to use KIDS, or will a KIDS build from that vintage transport
to today's VistA?

2. As I migrate my old FM/Kernel based system to VistA, I would like to move
two strategic files to VistA in the process. I had expected to do that with
KIDS, however, as I attempted transporting I encountered problems with
hostfile. I have a device HOST FILE SERVER, KIDS seems to want to use. I use
that device as a FM/Omniform interface to create attractively formatted
reports out of FM. The device is displayed below.

NUMBER: 10 NAME: HFS
  $I: c:\temp\hostfile.txt ASK DEVICE: YES
ASK PARAMETERS: YES VOLUME SET(CPU): CACHE
SIGN-ON/SYSTEM DEVICE: NO QUEUING: NOT ALLOWED
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: HOST FILE SERVER
ASK HOST FILE: YES MARGIN WIDTH: 256
PAGE LENGTH: 9999 OPEN PARAMETERS: "WNS"
  POST-CLOSE EXECUTE: D ^MAWVBC PRE-OPEN EXECUTE: D ^MAWGP
SUBTYPE: C-OTHER TYPE: HOST FILE SERVER

Something tells me I am going to have to rebuild these files in VistA. I am
not as concerned about moving data as the global.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks,

thurman
