VistA does have scheduling, a package it is not noted for. I have never seen it in action, but I find it difficult to believe that a package that is designed to handle a hospital cannot handle a clinic.
VistA-Office is virtually certain to be ported to GTM/Linux relatively soon after its release as it has been done for other releases of VistA. See the http://www.WorldVistA.org web site. The VA itself does not submit bills directly. It sends them to a clearing house, but it does have the ability to generate the information needed by the clearing house. I believe the VA uses WebMD. There is interest in working with the FreeBee folks to extend that functionality. FreeBee is an open source billing program that currently is functioning with at least one other open source EMR. The specifics of what has been done with VistA to create the 1.0 release of VistA-Office in early August, likely as soon as 11 days from now, will be discussed at the time of the release.
