I can't help wondering about the future, if the VA does re-engineer VistA. I
can't help wondering about the irony if, by that time, the rest of the world
has adopted VistA/VistA-Office as the standard.
The future will be determined by the understanding of the Conceptual
Content of VistA and how it relates to the common conventions agreed to by
healthcare and its professional specialty disciplines becuase the
"business" of health care is undergoing a transformation that the VA will
need to consider in its evolutionary trajectory. The Hardhats and the
VistA Community have participation in that conceptual content domain (e.g.
Nancy A for one key participant). The VA, HH and VC will need to make
active efforts to clealry understand the ideas reagarding "HealthePeople"
as skethed in the 2005 book by Christopherson, Kolodner and others. The VC
will need to build the involvement groups that particularly get at the
content while HH will need involvement in appropriate design,
implementation and testing of the technical infrastructure while the VC
must be involved ( in collaboration with healthcare profesional specilaty
groups) in the Validation/Verification of the conceptual content that is
concformant with the content Health informatics standards. Both areas of
activity are key and "Techie in a Closet attitudes" will not do; the
multidisciplinary collaborative attitudes that were part of the MUG/MTA
will trump any other "instant gratification" approach to the market.
Linking the user professional specialties (Acquirers) with the Suppliers,
as was the social mindset of MUG/MTA will bring benefits to both as has
been historically demonstrated; how to do that in the current healthcare
environment will draw on the community's creativity. That community's
posture is still far ahead of most others but lets now wait to "Turn To"
as time is a wasting.

The VistA demo server seemed to be down earlier, and the speculation is
that
it was from being swamped with business since the NY Times article.
If that is true, wait until VO is released.
