Subject: [Hardhats-members] BILLING
I'm not quite a complete newbie, have been following the archives for
several months, installed VistA/Cache but decided to wait for VO before
jumping in.
But I am a Doc in solo practice and am pretty good at billing.
HCFA-1500 and UB-92 are not really the way to go. While some small
practices are still allowed to use paper claims, Medicare's stated goal
is the elimination of paper claims. They have proposed adding a
surcharge for paper claims. The clearing house solution is costly, esp
for those of us in small practices on a budget. But, HIPAA requires all
payors to accept ANSI 837 V4010a formatted electronic claims. The 837
format is not too difficult, and VistA, like any database ought to be
able to produce it. My opinion is that ANSI 837 is where future efforts
should be directed.
