This was,in fact , exactly the opposite of what happened with MYSQL, and
most tech mailing lists I've attended.  The fact that the tech postings
and the help and newbie postings mixed together propelled the adaptation
of the product further and in no way limited it.

People actually get excited about receiving answers and tech support
from the very people who are working on the product.  This encourages
them, not discourages them.  

The problem is that we don't have to guess about these things.  There is
20 years worth of experience in these issues to prove what works well
and what doesn't work so well.
