This was,in fact , exactly the opposite of what happened with MYSQL, and most tech mailing lists I've attended. The fact that the tech postings and the help and newbie postings mixed together propelled the adaptation of the product further and in no way limited it. People actually get excited about receiving answers and tech support from the very people who are working on the product. This encourages them, not discourages them. The problem is that we don't have to guess about these things. There is 20 years worth of experience in these issues to prove what works well and what doesn't work so well.
