Ok, thanks, that helped! It seems xinetd is on seeing one service.
/var/log/messages tells me:

Aug  3 15:16:39 Minerva xinetd[21922]: xinetd Version 2.3.13 started
with libwrap loadavg options compiled in.
Aug  3 15:16:39 Minerva xinetd[21922]: Started working: 1 available service

After I restarted xinetd.
