I've not seen any answers to this sort of question yet. So let me throw a
few thoughts out there.

Many vendors of VistA packages have their own namespace assigned by VHA.
Those individuals and companies planning to professionally develop software
for WV or VOE should consider getting their own namespace from VHA. What
about the rest of us?

Should WV manage a set of name and number spaces? Not a bad idea. It does
seem the sort of thing that could rapidly grow out of hand. I'd be
interested in what Cameron has to say on this.

We probably need to consider more than just name and number spaces.

The model offered by Linux "distributions" might serve the WV community
well. System level enhancements could be released as a distribution by the
WV community. This distribution might consist of a combination of a WV
package, and class 3 modifications to core packages. As individuals develop
useful functionality, they could submit to be incorporated in the WV distro.
Enhancements to Kernel, clean up of VA specific functionality like triggers
to MPI and HEC, and current work being done to simplify installation and
configuration are kinds of things that might be part of such a distribution.

There could also be domain specific distributions. Not every office has a
lab or x-ray equipment. A distribution might be developed for small
offices, or orthopedic offices, or pediatrics. The system could be
pre-configured to meet specific needs of the target customer. A
distribution could include custom packages, but not necessarily.

Also, with all of this Open Source development that is supposedly going to
be taking place (and I believe some will because VistA and VOE will garner
some percentage of the marketplace), who will be handing out namespaces and
number spaces, etc, so all of this pent-up creativity plays well together?
