I understand how you feel, but ... LabCorp and Quest are so big and ubiquitous that we really need this interface if VistA is going to be attractive to some practices.
Labcorp is not interested in providing bucks for little offices to make interfaces, but they they have provided their specs and I believe they will provide a free test server to work with once we are ready. I think their attitude is that they get the work either way, so you need to come to them unless you are big enough to justify their expense. I am hoping to learn enough HL7 so I can figure out how to do this and then teach others who might want to help out. Maybe someone who already knows HL7 would like to take it on as a project, which would be better than me starting from scratch and bugging the heck out of the unfortunate folks I know that know some HL7. I don't know yet what Quest will do. You will notice that I did not suggest that we work on any practice management interfaces, at least not yet, because there are too many and most will not allow open source interfaces, so I think this is an area where practices with the systems need to pool resources to get the interfaces made with those that will allow it and then, hopefully, the practices will allow the interfaces to be distributed freely to others thereafter. I am thinking that the WorldVistA web site might be a good place to bring practices together to share resources. My thought is that the vendor of the commercial system should pay to have a developer or company, write those interfaces. Doing it for free, makes the vendor rich, by making his product more marketable, but does nothing for the person who wrote the interface. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jim Self Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2005 7:27 PM To: hardhats-members@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Hardhats-members] Wish list? To me it seems that it is more of a waiting for someone else to do the work of new development than a lack of asking. As I recall, you yourself have asked for quite a few things, including a free implementation of MUMPS for Macintosh, implementation of various MUMPS language enhancements, and a new and improved Fileman replacement to name a few recent requests. --------------------------------------- Jim Self Systems Architect, Lead Developer VMTH Computer Services, UC Davis (http://www.vmth.ucdavis.edu/us/jaself) ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl _______________________________________________ Hardhats-members mailing list Hardhats-members@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/hardhats-members ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl _______________________________________________ Hardhats-members mailing list Hardhats-members@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/hardhats-members -- Nancy Anthracite ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl _______________________________________________ Hardhats-members mailing list Hardhats-members@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/hardhats-members
