We saw the same error here, and strangely dos2unix sorted it out!

Subject: [Hardhats-members] Patching blues

I have finally gotten up the courage to try installing KIDS patches
again, and am having difficulties. I am patching into a test system.
I want to patch the PSN package (national drug file)

So I first displayed those patches that have already been installed...

I then downloaded the patches that I believed I needed to install

I looks to me that the last patch that was installed was patch #79.
I'm not sure why it doesn't have a sequence number. There were a few
other files in this directory with earlier patch numbers, (i.e. patch
79), but when I tried to reinstall, it notified me that they were
already installed (obviously), so that was not redone.

So I looked at the .txt file for patch: PSN-4_SEQ-76_PAT-83.txt

Associated patches: (v)PSN*4*79 <<= must be installed BEFORE `PSN*4*83'
-------------------------

So I see that I need path PSN*4*79. And according to my list at the
top of this post, I already have that installed. So I should be good
to go.

But I get an error that the patch won't be installed.

(Note I have wedged in a line of code that helps me pick the HFS name.
But it doesn't substantially change to KIDS installer)
