As my wading through Fileman is about as fun decompiling assembly code.
Okay, I've bitten my tongue enough that it's starting to hurt. I LIKE Fileman. In fact, I get a lot of criticism for telling people I like it. I think it's an incredibly powerful DBMS with an innovative and flexible design. I also think that its age is showing. When I say that I think the time has come to consider reworking substantial parts of VistA it's not just that I think it would be "fun": I still believe that reworking your code from time to time is a necessary exercise. I KNOW it's a lot of work, and I know that it's not a clinical application that people can work with right away. But...well, I do actually know something about this stuff! It could be that the cost/benefit ratio isn't quite there. Maybe the work isn't really justifiable, and that's okay. But that doesn't make the mere suggestion that the idea should be explored foolhardy.
