We routinely create shared object libraries on Sun SPARC Solaris (GT.M 
functionality is itself packaged in a .so), but use the Sun SPARC C 
compiler rather than gcc.  Also, are you sure that your MUMPS 
implementation is a 64 bit implementation rather than a 32 bit 
implementation on a 64 bit architecture?  If it is a 32 bit 
implementation, then you may need to create a 32 bit shared library.
