Something else is screwy--the AC66 is capable of well over 100mbit/s. As the SMB link shows, it can hit over 800mbps in both directions through the WAN link.
That said, I max my gigabit WAN connection (>950mbit/s) using my DIY pfSense box, sporting a fairly cheap Ivy Bridge-based Pentium. Years ago, I was also able to push over 950mbit/s through a single-core Celeron 3.3GHz (P4 era) using pfSense 1.2. -----Original Message----- From: Hardware [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Chris Reeves Sent: Friday, July 31, 2015 5:08 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [H] Well, damnit, I need a router that handles Gigabit on the WAN side.. So, Time Warner isn't quite Gigabit here. But they are offering 350Mb. I've tested it straight from their modem and it works. My old router didn't want to hang, so I went out and bought a nice one, an Asus RT-AC66, assuming it would handle it. It doesn't. I just get 100Mb over WAN. Anyone with recommendations on a router that handles Gigabit on the WAN side? OR is now the time for me to just throw together a small box running Firewall software and call it good?
