You know, Darwin, the OS behind the GUI (Aqua) has run on x86 for quite some time now... I'm sure most of you know this though (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/unix/ and http://developer.apple.com/darwin/projects/darwin/). In reality, there is very little stopping Apple from putting OSX on x86.
