compaq/hp do not make hard drives. Funny how an OEM uses another OEM's 
re-branded drives.

I just got my daughter a Dell Inspiron 6000 and it has a Compaq (at least
according to device manager) HD in it.

I replaced ten 40 and 80 GB Maxtors in one week.  They are that bad,
unfortunately.  Of the drives I replace, at least 90% are
Maxtors.  Dell is/was a big Maxtor user and it shows here.
