Well that's part of the reason it's slow at start up (and slow generally.) But you may be infected with something else (the consumer grade Symantec products aren't really much good.) You should be able to watch the processes to see what's taking up the rest of the time, but I'd try RootKitRevealer or BlackIce if you're concerned about Rootkits. You could also try the 30 day trial of NOD32 (and get rid of Norton) as that will give you a major speed boost.
