Hold on ms has a tool to fix this I ran into it once

It verified that my Xp was indeed valid. (Which I already knew). But after a reboot, Windows Update still shows it as a failed install. So, I guess, I will have to wait and see if it starts blocking me from some updates or patches. So far its not nagging me about it, but I bet it will eventually.
