I wouldn't be too sure :)

The thing is, IF you were rendering the same image, then the extra 20%
screen area wouldn't be that much of a hit....but you are normally rendering
a lot more pollies due to the fact you have a wider viewing angle (if the
game has been programmed correctly), as well as coping with the increase in
resolution....I find the hit of going from 4:3 to 16:9 (or is it 16:10 for
PCs?) to be far greater then I ever imagined it to be.

Its a shame that many benchmarkers still do not benchmark widescreen
resolutions.
