The threats downloaded these days are more likely in the .java cache than temp and IE temporary internet files. If your AV is worth anything, it should detect these threats the instant they are downloaded to any of these locations.

I'm seeing several "experts" in my town telling people to empty their temp files and clear their history when they are finished surfing in order to "protect their privacy" and "remove the malware they got while surfing." It sounds to me like the old "make sure you defrag once a week" story that goes through the media from time to time due to a misunderstanding of file fragmentation. Since we all know that Windows doesn't properly clear the temp folders anyway, clearing all this stuff on a daily basis sounds a best like a waste of time, and at worst like a way to lull people into a false sense of security. Anyone think this is worth the time?
