But the thing is, if I turn my laptop on while plugged in to a fast wire, if the wifi is on then I have two connections if there is a WAP around. Which gets used? Would a PC pick a slower connection when a faster one is available? Also, if I start things the other way, on a wifi connection, then when the connection starts to go southI then move to a wired connection (I did this just last night while using my UMPC with Skype to talk to my island lady-friend), then do I get improved 'net performance because I switched to a wire? Perhaps I would if I then turned wifi off, since traffic would be forced to go over the wire?

It seems we're getting these PCs (mainly laptops) with wifi and wired connections with no real means (other than an off switch) to manage their use for best performance. What's up with that?
