A few months ago when I originally started to look for components I
had the P5B high on my list. But I changed my mind recently, read
some onboard sound problems, and the choice of video card I wanted to
use.

Here are a couple MBs I looked at of the P5B flavor.

ASUS P5B Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $178

Keep in mind i might run with an SLI setup in the future. These boards
do not seem to support that, and since I'm going with the 8800GTX
these may not be right for me right now.

I don't mind spending a little more on a motherboard than what the
Gigabyte 965 costs if it does what I want and gives me the performance
I am looking for.

I'd stay away from the Gigabyte 965 boards, many people seem to have issues
with them and most comment on their bad build quality.

Asus seems to be the best mobo manufacturer for Conroe CPUs at the moment. The
P5B series is about as solid as they come. Grab one, some 667 DDR2 RAM and an
E4300 and you have a cheap way of hitting 3GHz (these chips hit 3GHz without
breaking a sweat).

Then pick up an 8800GTS and you have quite a beast :)

Subject: [H] Need Advice: My PC Build '07

My last rebuild, 2003 so I'm excited to get this new project going.
The only thing I plan on re-using is my chieftec tower. I'm pulling
the guts out of it and putting it in another tower. That p4 3.2 still
does regular PC work just fine -- but I want to get back into the
higher end gaming.

My budget is around $1600, I don't need to spend it all but want a
good gaming machine. If I need to spend a little more, I might be able
to if I'm out of my realm. Most of the stuff I play are first person
shooters, C&C type games (New one coming!), and flight simulators like
MSFS and IL2.

So far I have settled on the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 since I can't
justify the extra price of the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 per its
performance.

I believe I'm also going with a single Western Digital Raptor
WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM hard drive.

I also want 2GB of ram too, I used CRUCIAL on my last PC.

I'm open to all suggestions as I research some more. I'm open to
motherboard, memory type, especially VIDEO CARD, and also a POWER
SUPPLY.

I'm staying with XP for now, but will do VISTA later in '07.

TIA for suggestions!
