In a 32 bit system there is only so many memory addresses = 4GB worth. Then you start subtracting any other onboard memory from whatever source because they are using memory addresses. A 1GB card uses 1GB of memory addresses. The ability to use up to I think 2TB of RAM is the primary advantage to 64 bit
