JB,
OK, on the next nag msg, I will install it to get rid of the yellow "other devices" object in the CP/DM.

Yes, I comprehend the HDMI interface. I have seen it on many of the higher level video cards. The 4350 does not have one. It has a VGA interface and a DVI inteface, the 4670 just has 2 DVI interfaces; I have DVI-VGA adapters!

Something along the way got really confused! The "weak" new video card is the R4350/512. The one not-yet-test is the R4670/512. I'd swear that I ordered the 3450, but the 4350 arrived (and is burning trons as I type!).

Really sorry for this huge confusion!!!
Best,
Duncan

I typo'd and meant to say "videocard" in my initial reply, the
VIDEOcard can generate audio and deploy it over HDMI

It won't interfere with the realtek audio.

Recall also that the 3450 has ATI's AVIVO universal video decoder
built in, full h264 and VC1 decoding in hardware.
It's basically a fire and forget media center solution.

JB,
Yes, I get this, but why does my ATI Video driver CD wish to install
another HD Audio something when I have already fully enabled the on- board (HD) Audio system of the m/b?
You use the term HDMI - to me that means something Video-focused;
or, am I still sadly confused with all these new "toys?"

The is my real confusion. Perhaps company grumble? I'd like to
allow it, but I do not want it to install and interfere with current
RealTek on-board audio system. It is tested, set-up and works very
well.

The soundcard can output audio over HDMI (with an adaptor on the DVI
port), the HD Audio driver is for that.

Collective,
Yes, I can be very thick; some might say stupid! This am I upgraded
my new test platform from w2k to winXPproSP3. The upgrade went so
smooth, I thought I'd done something wrong!
And, after ~37 winUpdates, I was able to finally install drivers for
the ATI Radeon R4350!

OK, I am convinced. I will now move to WinXPpro! I now have 12
months of flawless service from my XP test machine and it is also as
solid as a brick! Now willing to give up W2KproSP4 except for my
server. Can not afford the new version yet...............next year!

Bottom line: the new toys in the new box are fully operational and
running as expected. Zero glitches; except for ATI wishing to load
some driver for HD Audio. Does this video card have an HD Audio
section? (The P5Q3 is already happily running its' Realtek HD Audio
stuff.) Stuff for more reading.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.

One down, 2 to go!
