Go find the MSN executable and set it's compatibility options to Vista SP2.
It will then minimize to the tray.

Subject: [H] Win7 and Live Messenger

Is anyone using Windows Live Messenger under Win7? It seems to work
okay except for one annoying habit--It doesn't reduce to the tray.
Previously you could 'X' out and WML would sit in the tray and give you
notices, still being alive. Now, it sits on the task bar and, whenever
you minimize another window, it maximizes and you have to put it down
again (I like that turn of phrase...).

Will be searching for solution....
