Only with some cards that understand it (I saw your followup). Your better bet
is more simple: just a straight vga and an 8ohm to stereo rca cable. Problem
solved.

Subject: [H] A/V connection question

So I recently bought an Acer Aspire Revo that I'm going to throw XBMC on to
connect to the upstairs computer using the following info:

http://lifehacker.com/5391308/build-a-silent-standalone-xbmc-media-center-on-the-cheap
http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53888&highlight=component

Unfortunately, the Revo only has VGA and HDMI output and my older TV that it
is connecting to only has component and VGA (no HDMI). Electrically, why
can't I use something like this to connect it:

http://www.amazon.com/Component-Video-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B001IUQB2W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261758394&sr=8-1

All of these types of cables say that they cannot be used to connect a PC to
the TV. Is it because they do not support HDCP? If I'm not playing copy
protected output, will it work?

If not, my options are to use the VGA and run audio through the front
headphone jack on the Revo.
