Yeah, that's definitely worth doing. Even if you want to keep some of the pretty stuff, turn off Animate Controls, Transparent Glass, and all the slide or smooth-scroll stuff.
BTW, does anyone know of a utility that lets you configure all those visual effect settings from the command line?
