Thanks Winterlight,
From your share, I don't need any of it. I'll continue with 'Workgroup.'

no.. a workgroup is what it has always been. A home group allows all members of the homegroup to access all available shares simply by being a member of the homegroup. You create the home group on your computer, and are given a special password. Then when you enroll other PCs, or devices in the home group...from those PCs or devices ... you need only use that password and you have instant and complete access until you remove them from the home group. It could be PC or a media player or whatever. The idea is to simplify networking for your average family. There is lots and lots or articles, opinions and detailed instructions about homegroups at various sites...do a google search.

Is 'HomeGroup' the same thing as 'WorkGroup' in the network settings?

It seems to pop up all over, and, in some odd places. I will be happy to google and/or get lost in the 'help' screens. Just thought the collective had this figured out. I do mind identifying all my PCs and NAS's, switches, etc. to M$. What is the benefit
to me, the user?
