The biggest advantage is that your 25Mbps comes from a bigger pool,
minimizing the impact of any one channel becoming saturated. As it stands
now, if the channel your D2 modem has selected becomes saturated, you may
not see the full 25Mbps. Since each channel (in the US) is good for about
38Mbit, it doesn't take much. Four D3 channels yields about 150Mbit, and 8
about 300Mbit. My modem is a 16-channel model, so my 250Mbps package comes
out of a 608Mbps pipe.

Carriers are mostly pushing to get D1.1 modems off the network so they can
drop support for inefficient modulations, freeing the spectrum for other
uses. D2 will likely follow, so this may just be a soft push to start the
ball rolling. You will likely have years to act though, should you so
choose.

Subject: [H] DOCSIS 3.0

I got this email from COX today.

<<<To get the fastest speed offered with your package, you should upgrade
your modem. A DOCSIS 3.0 modem is the proven option, which utilizes our
most advanced technology to support faster speeds than ever before for the
best online experience.>>>

I have a Motorolla Surfboard II DOCSIS 2.0 that seems to be working
fine. My tier is not the fastest or even the second fastest. I am at 25Mbs
down and 5 Mbs up and it seems fast to me. For a while I got their next
tier up which I think was 50Mbs and I didn't notice any difference with what
I use it for.

So does anybody think I will even notice a difference if I buy a DOCSIS 3.0
modem?
