[H] what the hell happened to gmail

I have never been a big fan of Gmail but with  its recent update it 
has become unusable. they did an update and now the gear icon is 
missing, it won't let me scroll down to the bottom of the page, it 
jumps in and does things for me I don't want to do, pretty soon it 
won't need me anymore.
