Getting around by car or foot is an adventure.
BTW, I was going to post this problem to the list, but I did find the
solution. Wednesday with all the ice and snow, I skipped work.
However, my main system was running like a dead snail. I thought that
it had something to do with the internet, as we usually have problems
when things get wet. Cox promises to replace the cable under the
street. It was originally put there in 1983 by Dimension Cable
(afterwards swallowed up). The surprise happened when I turned on the
other system and it ran fine. Starting up task manager, I noticed by
ekrn.exe was using 100% of my dual core. Yes, I'm using the latest ESET
Smart Security. Found the answer on the 'net, but basically boils down
to ESET's long history of problems with ekrn.exe, which they haven't
solved for the past 5 years. In this case, ekrn.exe doesn't like it
when Firefox's sessionstore files get over a certain size. Then it
begins to continually access those files. The solution is two-fold, at
least this worked for me, first you have to exclude those files, 2nd,
clear history in Firefox. Oh, and 3rd, in 9 months when my
subscription runs out: Move to a different anti-virus.
