I normally am not a big believer in these all in one kits. But I've
been using a zalman kit in my living room for my media center, but it's
been noisy and hasn't really held down the temperatures on my Phenom
X6/1055. But I found one of these H50s at Microcenter near me for $59.
I decided to take a gamble on it, and I have to admit, I am really
surprised. Temperatures, even at full load (encoding to x264 from VC1)
stays under 48C, which is about a 12 degree advantage on the Zalman, but
more importantly, suddenly my media center is DEAD quiet.
I've slowly finally configured the media center the way I wanted. I'm
using a Ceton Cable Card controller, so I get 4 tuners that way, and
then extra ATSC through a SiliconDust. I'm using a Radeon 5670 for
video.
Bluray playback is solid, game performance is more then managable, and
I power out all my extenders with ease. I'm running Win7Pro x64, with
16GB RAM at the moment.. normally I'd say "what a waste" but RAM was so
damn cheap I didn't have to sweat it. But easily, the two best buys
were the CETON and the H50. I am 100% sold on these, as long as it
stays working :)
