The install key as it is should never ever match the key on the bottom of a 
unit.   The key installed in these is a PAK key, designed to work with an SLC 
bios file to verify the unit is to be pre-activated (oem hardware).  The key on 
the bottom is only in the case you have to reformat etc

I've never seen the installed key the same as the sticker key FWIW. 
And I have checked a lot of installs.

He may need to buy a disk from the manufacturer, they usually sell 
restore disks a lot cheaper then anything he can buy. I've seen 
$30-$40 in the past.
Not sure about Sony. I doubt the blue sticker key would work with a 
borrowed disk. OEM SW is fingerprinted to the HW.
