I'm glad it worked out. I run a couple of older games and what I think is happening is that the game is trying to write to its own installation folder (under the Program Files folder) and UAC doesn't allow that normally. Of course I love how you can be an admin without being the admin....LOL.

the portal2.exe and then I had the run as admin option. I have to

before but once I get Steam up and running I can run as admin the

Did you try 'Run as Administrator'?  Even if you are in the admin group,
you still have limits on what you can do outside of administrator.
