I'd also consider an older Dell model off eBay. Something like a
PowerConnect 2716. It's no Cisco 3750X, but it's going to be better than
your normal home-grade gear. The 16-port model is fanless, too.

HI,

I am looking for a fast reliable 16 port(or more) 1GB switch. Or maybe
2x8 port. Does anyone have any recommendations? The cheaper the better
but I don't mind paying more for something that will be reliable and last
longer.
This is for my wired network only, I am using the Asus RT-N66U for the
wirless.

Many thanks,

Hi,

If your looking for un-managed, I have done well with TrendNet and NetGear:

16 Port

Truly, I would recommend either well placed 5-8 port switches around the
house, or a 24 port switch, the savings from 24 to 16 ports is not high.

24 Port

8 Port:

You will notice that you can easily put in 3x 8 port switches for less then
1 16 port switch.
