One of the best gaming memories I have was of a guildie in DAOC who had logged out while in Darkness Falls. For those who haven't played DAOC, there were three realms each with a big PvE zone and an outlands region with forts that other realms could invade. You could capture forts, and whichever realm had the majority of the forts had the ability to enter this high-level dungeon called Darkness Falls. You continued to stay in DF even if it switched control to another realm - only way out was to portal out or /release after death.
When my guildie logged back in, it had switched over to one of the other realms (Hibernian I think) and several groups of them were fighting in the same hall he was in. Being a thief-type character, shadowblade, he quickly stealthed and took a look around. He picked out a group nearby that was struggling with a bunch of mobs and quietly 1-shotted their healer. In the fray they didn't notice the death was due to a PvP kill and thought it was due to the mobs. The group called for help and someone from another group came to assist. Now it got interesting, because the agro in DF scaled with the size of your group. As you call for more help, so do the mobs. So more mobs from across the room joined the fight. My friend did the only sensible thing and 1-shotted another healer. More calls for help, more groups join in, more adds. I got to the point where mobs from a couple levels down started joining, including this massive Prince dude. Of course my buddy is gchatting and taking screenshots the whole time while stealthed in the corner. It ended with a screenshot of him, this little blue furry kobold, flexing over an entire graveyard of tombstones (which is how they marked a spot where a player died most recently in DAOC). Brilliant. --------- Brian On Thu, Aug 30, 2012 at 8:43 AM, Naushad Zulfiqar <[email protected]> wrote: > DAOC was amazing!! > > Me Like. > > > > On Thu, Aug 30, 2012 at 3:24 PM, Brian Weeden <[email protected] > >wrote: > > > Raiding peaked with Dark Age of Camelot and the Darkness Falls dungeon. > > It's all been downhill from there..... > > > > --------- > > Brian > > > > > > > > > > On Thu, Aug 30, 2012 at 8:19 AM, <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > > Raiding is my thing too... > > > > > > Regards, > > > joeuser - Still looking for the 'any' key... > > > > > > "...now these points of data make a beautiful line..." > > > > > > > -------- Original Message -------- > > > > Subject: Re: [H] Guild Wars 2 > > > > From: Naushad Zulfiqar <[email protected]> > > > > Date: Thu, August 30, 2012 1:00 am > > > > To: [email protected] > > > > > > > > > > > > I really don't like PvP at all. > > > > > > > > But I understand why people like it. > > > > > > > > End game raiding is what I like. > > > > > > > > > > > > -- > Best Regards, > > > Zulfiqar Naushad >
