Regarding item #1: As someone who primarily uses a Galaxy S III with a 4.8"
screen, I can honestly say that the 4" screen Apple chose makes a lot of
sense. I have fairly normal sized hands, and the screen is at the upper
limits, or just beyond, what is really comfortable. If I'm using it with one
hand, and need to touch the screen in the opposite corner, it's quite a
stretch to hit it--too much so in my opinion. Apple decided long ago to
standardize on a single hardware form factor, so it needs to be usable by
the masses. Around 4 inches is the sweet spot for a one-size-fits-all
approach.

Any improvement is welcome--the 3.5" of prior models has become nearly
unusable.

My main complaint with the iPhone 5 is the same as I've had for prior
models--the OS. It feels so old now that it's painful to use.

I carry an iPhone 4 for work and a Galaxy S III for personal use. It's
interesting--I was carrying the iPhone 4 and a personal Galaxy S I, and
reached my breaking point with the phone and with Android in particular.
However, it was running 2.3, and I wanted to give 4.0 a chance before I
wrote off the platform entirely and went to WP8--so I bought a SGS III. And
wow does it impress - Android may have earned a reprieve for me. I'm
eligible for a refresh on my work phone next month, so I'll be able to run
an iPhone 5 side by side with the SGS III. Could be interesting.

Just a quick disclaimer, I don't have either an iPhone or Android, or
any smartphone....
