Anthony,
ATM I use the 'backup' sw inside XPpro. I believe it is old Veritas SW.
It works fine to/from my 3 NAS (Netgear).
I know about Acronis, and, others. Have not moved there yet.
The canned 'backupsw' has worked both times I have used it to
recover a glitched/blown system. Yes, I loose ~30days of stuff, but,
I did recover(thanks to help/counsel from our List over time).
I like your SW plan. I share your thoughts completely.......... :)
I own zero 'touch-screens'. I will upgrade to W7 and watch how Win8
plays out in the future.

Sounds like you would be well served by HP. How do you do backups?
Software-wise, I mean?
the i5 is where i would go for a home machine...should serve you
well. I will be using Win7 at least until Win9 comes up. See no need
for Win8 on any device that doesn't have a touch screen.

Anthony,
I will read your linkand think some more.
Actually, I am retiring PCs at this time. Used to have 7. Now, I have
2 active and
2 off between MS Updates. I do not do P2P, audio collecting, video
collecting, WIFI,
interconnects to any/all cell phone/smart phone business.
I just do simple Office, banking, gaming, etc.
Iam afraid I am working quickly to "Non-Techie" status.
But, I am still studying I5 cpus and m/b's ATM.
Even dinosaurs do move around................... :)

Maybe this will be of some use:

Also, have you considered technet? May or may not be a good idea.

Uh, no, I don't think so. I understand Home Premium to be
'Network-lite.'
I run XP Pro now. This is still so confusing.

I guess the home premium family 3-pack at $150 won't work for you?

Should I wait until after Win8's release to buy my 2 more Win7pro
DVD sets?
The current EGG price seems pricey a $274.99.
