Hello all, Actually, if you do not have a touch screen or do not want the Metro to come up first there is an Application that will put you to the desktop and even give you a Star menu like Windows 7. The name of the App is called Start8 and it is from Stardock.
As for performance it runs very well, in fact it runs better than Windows 7. Although the OS does not have the cool Areo like Windows 7 does. The interface is a little different. I've been recommending Windows 8 with the Start8 app to everyone and I get feedback and they say they love it.
