A few years ago I remember a DIY sprinkler controller. He had moisture sensors, air humidity/speed/direction sensors, and did 'predictive watering' to keep down the un-needed watering.
The punch line to his DIY article was he was about to think he had messed up and was needing to force manual watering late one dry afternoon. But before he got the water turned on, the skys opened up. His was pretty much the nirvana of such systems. ...
