Jamie Hyneman ("Mythbusters") shows off an outboard boat motor that he
converted to electric operation.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EV2qq2-Lck His conversion, including the cost of the used gas motor, ran about $4500, which he claims compares nicely with the cost of the new gas motor at $7000. (I didn't know 40 HP outboards ran that expensive.) The converted motor uses a brushed DC motor and a lithium ion power source.
