In Defective by Design's (a project of the Free Software Foundation) 2013 Giving Guide: http://www.fsf.org/givingguide
They recommend buying the Lulzbot TAZ 2.0 3D printer instead of Makerbot Replicator 2. I've heard people complaining that Makerbot was moving more proprietary, now that it has become more successful, and no longer needs the support of the open hardware community. FSF says about the Makerbot printer: -MakerWare software is proprietary, restricting freedom and stifling innovation; -Hardware patents threaten free printers like the Lulzbot; -Recently announced an increasingly proprietary approach, further distancing itself from the free software community. And about the Lulzbot: -Respects Your Freedom certified by the Free Software Foundation; -Powered by free software, making 3D printing more accessible and encouraging innovation; -Learn more about the Lulzbot at www.lulzbot.com -Tom _______________________________________________ Hardwarehacking mailing list [email protected] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/hardwarehacking
