Dear Ha Safran listers,
This is an official employment posting for Historical Content Analysts in The Shoah Foundation's Cataloguing Department. Survivors of The Shoah Visual History Foundation has amassed over 52,000 testimonies of survivors, rescuers, liberators and other victims and witnesses to the atrocities perpetrated during the Holocaust. Our collection includes testimonies from all around the world, in over 30 languages. Founded by Steven Spielberg in 1994, our mission is to overcome prejudice, intolerance, and bigotry -and the suffering they cause - through the educational use of the Foundation's visual history testimonies. It has been a primary focus of The Shoah Foundation's mandate to index and catalogue these testimonies, using technologically advanced systems. As we meet our first stage goal of indexing and cataloguing English language testimonies, we are now seeking persons with oral and written fluency in one or more of the following languages: Hebrew, Russian, Polish, Dutch, French, Spanish, Czech / Slovak, Greek, Romani and Yiddish. Because of its broad intellectual base and the allied network of contacts with students and professionals in the fields of language study, history, political and social sciences, we feel that Ha Safran list members are ideal individuals to help us spread the word about available openings at the Shoah Foundation. It is essential that we receive inquiries from the most qualified persons, and thus we also ask your assistance in forwarding this announcement to any other individuals whom you feel may qualify for this truly unique project. This would include foreign language departments at universities, consulates and translations services, as well as those educating in the fields of historical ethnography and geography. This is a project based position, targeted to begin in January, 2004. We intend to begin interviewing in the fall of 2003. Please visit the following web page for more information and directions on how to apply for a position: http://www.geocities.com/chaimster/HCAinfo.html Please do not hesitate to call us with inquiries or questions about the Shoah Foundation or the Cataloguing Department.
