Safranim/Safraniot

For those seeking less expensive lodging at conventions (both ours and
others you may attend), I would like to recommend against it.

Our hotel contracts, and those of all conventions and conferences, contain
a baseline number of rooms we need to occupy. This may be figured by night,
and/or for the entire length of the conference (sometimes before and after
as well). If we don't make our number, we are hit with a major charge that
none of the organizing committees has funds to cover.

I know the Brooklyn rate is high, as was the rate at the Four Seasons in
Toronto last year. But rest assured the committees do all they can to be
competitive and responsive to our needs. Those of us who have attended
conventions know the benefits of being in the same location. And the
organizers do want as many people to attend.

In past years AJL has had a room-mate service (usually through HaSafran)
that will find companions for those who want to share.
