June, I concur entirely with what you and others have to say about outdated books. However, if we are the librarians in a circulating collection, particularly one that serves children, we must remeber that kids can't sift the older fashioned, inaccurate, outdated from the updated information. We must keep the circulating collection up-to-date or kids will be absorbing out dated information and attitudes.
It must be in our genes to save this stuff. I have a closet full that makes interessting reading but I'd never put most of these books in the hands of contemporary children or adults unless there were a reason. I work in a public library and public school as well as a synagogue, and you would not believe how outdated the Judaica is as well as the general material.Mom is always in the kitchen making matzah balls and Israel is overrun with camels. Man really has gone to the moon and we do, indeed, have 50 states.
