I believe there has been some misunderstanding of the arguments I and
Rachel Leket-Mor have made about what to do with old Jewish children's
books. Neither Rachel nor I said that anyone should keep these books in
their collection. What we said was that we understood why librarians must
weed, but that we would prefer to see these old books donated rather than
destroyed. Our arguments were about preservation and donation, not about
maintaining outdated books in one's collection. We are talking about two
different sets of values; the value of a collection to the people who use
it, and the value of books to historical research. Please understand that
we are asking those of you who are weeding books to think about donating
these books to archives or historical collections rather than dumping them
into trash bins. It is worth the few moments of your time to make this
consideration.

Thank you,
June Cummins
