Has anyone on the hasafran list joined one of the
librarian "meetup" groups that have been sprouting up.

I can't offer much information about them myself ; I
joined my local (Toronto) one, but there haven't been
any meetings here since I joined.

Here's what I can tell you about them :

The website for the "Librarians" meetup group is
http://librarians.meetup.com/

This is a subpage of the larger Meetup.com website -
http://www.meetup.com/

Meetup is basically a combination database / meeting
organizer website, which facilitates the meetings of
people with shared interests, whether those interests
are political, social or simply fun.

At present, there are 46 groups worldwide and a total
of 322 members. The largest group is San Francisco's
(38 members).

Basic membership is free, but one must join the group
they're interested in to view details about the
meetings (as well as to RSVP).
