My apology to Susan and to everyone - in my zeal, I erred by attributing
two messages posted by Susan Dubin Feb. 27 and Mar. 1 to Nancy Sack.
If I've understood the clauses helpfully provided by Susan's posting that
pertain to amending the Constitution, then it may be that the
proposed text cannot be changed at this stage. Susan, is that how you read it?
The one thing that may solve this problem, or at least get a revision
to the floor of the AGM, is dependant on which set of rules the AGM
operates under. Is it Roberts Rules of Order, Nancy? If so, Roberts
sets out a few possibilities for amending a motion which proposes a
change to an organization's Constitution from the floor of the AGM -
as I recall - as long as the amendment raised from the floor does not
contradict the original proposed text, which will have gone through
all the required steps for Constitutional change. I'm the
Parliamentarian for the Ontario Library Association and we use
Roberts, but I don't have a copy to hand.
If we can nail this down, then I'll be happy to propose a change in
the text which does not contradict the original proposed text, but clarifies
it along the lines we've been discussing. I don't think there's any
opposition to that - or is there?
B'shalom,
Bernard.
