Jane Zande recently posted a query about renovation, especially what
to do with the collection during renovations. My "renovation"
question is bit different...

My library will be moving to a new location within the next couple of
years; we will be at the same address, but the building is being
expanded and the library will be moved to the new wing.

We have been in our current location for only about 5 years. I think
I did some things right in planning this library; I'd like to do more
things right with the next one!

We are a synagogue library serving a preschool, religious school, and
adult populations. Our collection is about 6000
I am very interested in learning from others who have been involved
in planning new libraries:
         - what provisions did you make for changing technology
         - how did you approach space planning (I am being "assigned"
a space that is unusual - long, narrow, one curved glass wall)

         - recommendations re shelving, chairs
         - recommendations re timetable for planning/moving
         - recommendations for maximizing PR internally and
externally when new library opens
         - nitty-gritty stuff like lighting, number of electrical
outlets, display space, storage space, etc, etc
I will be most appreciative to learn from my colleagues! -- your
responses will help enormously as I plan, and will help as I present
requests to "the powers that be"

Thank you,
Amy Kaplan, Librarian
