The fourth Western Regional Conference on Jewish Literature for
Children will present a panel on Young Adult/Teen literature. The
panel will be moderated by Linda Silver, past president of the
School, Synagogue and Center Division and author of the Jewish Values
Finder website. Sarah Daer Littman, winner of the Sydney Taylor Award
for her book Confessions of a Closet Catholic, will be a panel member
as will Debra Garfinkle (Storky), Dana Reinhardt (A Brief Chapter in
My Impossible Life), and Simone Elkeles (How to Ruin a Summer
Vacation). The panelists will also give one hour sessions on their
own personal takes on writing for teens. An optional afternoon
program will be given by Linda Silver on a "Survey of Jewish
Literature for Children."

The Conference, which draws more than one hundred and twenty
participants each year, is sponsored by Sinai Temple Blumenthal
Library, AJLSC, the Association of Jewish Libraries, and some very
generous donors. The one-day event is open to educators, librarians,
authors, booksellers, would-be authors and adults who have a passion
for Jewish children's literature. It will be held on February 4,
2007, at Sinai Temple, 10400 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, from 9:30
to 2:00 with the optional afternoon session scheduled from 2:00 to
4:00 P.M. The $60 registration includes all sessions and handouts,
lunch, an autograph dessert party with authors who write Jewish
literature for children, and a Jewish Children's Literature
Marketplace. Special rates are available for groups of more than 3
from an institution as well as for students. The Bureau of Jewish
Education of Southern California is granting a half unit of
continuing education credit for attending.
