DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES
The Rabbi Marshall R. Lifson Library at Temple Emanuel in Newton
Centre, Massachusetts is a 12,000 volume fully automated and
increasingly busy library serving all ages and stages of synagogue
life, from toddlers to senior citizens. We are looking for a
part-time (30 hours per week/10month per year) librarian.
Responsibilities under the direction of the Library Committee include:
· Overall management and collection development
· Evaluate, select and purchase library materials, supplies
and equipment.
· Plan, implement and supervise all policies and procedures
and operations of library services to congregation, professional
staff, religious school faculty, students and auxiliaries.
· Consult with other congregational staff members about
educational initiatives and programs.
· Prepare annual budget
· Provide reader advisory services to members of the congregation
· Promote and publicize library services to congregation and
constituencies
· Supervise classification and cataloging of library materials
· Recruit, train and supervise library volunteers
· Administer library automation system (Infocentre)
· Attend and represent library in local and national
professional library organizations.
Basic Qualifications:
· ALA-accredited (or equivalent) MLS or MIS
· Experience with library automation systems
· Strong familiarity with Jewish literature and learning
Interested candidates should demonstrate serious commitment to
Judaica librarianship and leadership experience.
