My archive room (approx 20by 9) had a water leak and although no
materials were actually in the water, and are for the most part on
shelves and in professional archival boxes, are in the room. The room
will have to have sheetrock replaced and some flooring, but my
question is--- Should I open the boxes and/or remove the boxes from
the room, or leave them closed? Is there a danger of leaving them with
the possibility of residual moisture in there causing future
degradation of the materials? The room is being vented now. Does
anyone suggest getting a professional dehumidifier in ? And for the
future- what suggestions (brands, size, sources) would be suggested
for a dehumidifier in there permanently? I have a fairly ineffective
room type now. Your help on any of the above would be very much
appreciated. Thanks Judy Weidman, Congregation Beth Israel, Houston,
TX
